How To Look After Your Human Hair Dreadlock Extensions
Congratulations on getting your dream hair!
Having your dreadlocks created is just the beginning of your journey and you probably have lots of questions about how to care for your new hair style. Although many people choose the neglect method of looking after their dreads, to keep your dreadlocks looking nice and tidy and to extend the life of your human hair extensions it is best to get into a good care routine for them.
Because I create your extensions directly onto your dreadlock they shouldn’t slip or fall out. They can sometimes become a bit thinner at the joins but if this happens do not worry. I can add some extra hair to the joins when you next come in for maintenance. Just make sure to let me know at the time of booking so I can ensure I have the correct colour hair in stock to do this for you. This is a normal part of the process and happens as your dreads mature and lock up at different rates.
You will need to regularly moisturise your extensions. I sell a beautiful smelling organic dreadlock hydrating oil made by Raw Roots. You can pick it up during your appointment or arrange a time to come and collect it from me. It can be used on your skin as well as your dreads. You can also use pure Aloe Vera Gel or pure Argon Oil on your dreads.
It is best to apply the oil on clean damp dreads. Pop some oil in your hands and rub them together. Run your hands down each dread individually to ensure you get good coverage. If you don’t wash your dreads very often and your extensions feel dry between washing, you can apply the oil directly to your dry dreads in the same way. I would advise doing this in the mornings so you don’t end up with oil all over your pillows.
With wispy or luxury ends it is normal for them to shed hair so if this happens don’t worry. This will lesson over time. If your ends become too thin for your liking then I can always create new wispy ends at a future appointment. If you would like this service at any point please contact me for a quote.
