How To Prepare For Your Appointment

Whether you have booked your appointment to get your dream dreads created or you are treating your locs to some love and care with a maintenance session you maybe wondering what, if anything you need to do before you come to your appointment or if you need to bring anything along with you to your session with me.  Well, here is all the information that you will need.

Preparing your hair

If having new dreads created you need to come with clean, dry and brushed hair.  You need to wash your hair with a residue free shampoo.  A specialist dread shampoo is best to use, but if you don’t have one, washing up liquid will do the job.

I recommend using one of the Raw Roots shampoo bars. You can either order one online or you can buy one directly from me in the Studio. Please message me to arrange this.

If you want to dye your hair, do this before your appointment.

If you are coming for a maintenance session you need to have clean and dry hair.  I cannot work with wet hair as your hair is weaker and may get damaged during the maintenance session.  Please wash your hair 48 hours before your appointment to ensure that it will be dry enough for me to work on.

What should I bring?

  • Appointments can be long so please feel free to bring work, a book etc with you in case you want something to do. I have films we can watch and spotify so we can listen to music.

  • No shoes are allowed on in my house so please bring slippers if you get cold feet.

  • Food and Drink - there are some great places near me to buy food if you forget to bring any with you.  I am just a few minutes walk away from St Marks Road and there is a fabulous deli in Sweat Mart there that sells amazing Indian food if that’s your vibe.

  • I have a microwave so feel free to bring in something to heat up if you want to save some pennies.

  • If you are pain sensitive then please bring painkillers as getting dreads created/maintained can be uncomfortable.

  • Due to the cost of heating my home I am unable to keep the studio as warm as I have done in previous years. Please bring whatever it is you will need to stay warm - slippers/thick socks, hot water bottle, jumpers and or a blanket. I do have a small electric heater that I use to warm the room but can only use it sparingly.

If you are bringing a child

  • Please ensure you bring age appropriate pain killers for your child if they are having their hair done. I advise to give them some before the appointment so they are working when you already arrive.

  • Please bring things to entertain your child for the duration of the appointment.

  • Please bring enough food and drink for your child for the duration of the appointment.

Arrival times and leaving when appointment is over

  • Please do not arrive any earlier than 5 minutes before your appointment.

  • If you are really early then please wait until its time for your appointment before knocking. There are plenty of nice parks, cafes and pubs around the area where you can go while you wait.

  • Once our appointment is over please leave promptly.

  • If you are waiting to be picked up then please wait outside or go to one of the many nice parks, cafes and pubs around the area until your lift arrives.

Smoking

  • If you want to smoke or vape then you can use my garden. Please put your cigarette butts in the ashtray.

  • If you want to keep going out for cigarettes/to vape then your appointment will take longer and you will be charged for the extra time.
